Utilizing Unique Perspectives and Methods to Cultivate Researchers of English Literature, English Studies, and Communication Studies

The English Literature Course consists of four specializations: English Literature, American Literature, English Studies, and Communication Studies. Our faculty members have diverse specialties, such as novels and poetry from the U.K. and the U.S. (as well as other English-speaking countries), drama, semantics, syntax, and communication theory. English and American Literature majors will deepen their knowledge on linguistic constructs, such as literary works and cultural texts. Students of English Studies will learn about the essence, structure, and functions of language. Finally, Communication Studies majors will research the mechanisms and functions of language among people, between people and organizations, within society, and in culture. Students will thus deepen advanced specialized knowledge and theory as they develop their skills in close reading, analysis, comprehension, and conception to prepare for their theses.

Since 1998, this division has kept its doors open to working professionals. We hold special entrance examinations that focus on research plans as well as interviews for those who have spent some time working since finishing their undergraduate studies, in addition to night lectures that are offered on weekdays after 6 p.m.

Students research the English language as well as British and American linguistic phenomena and constructs to understand not only the peoples’ ideologies, cultures, and societies but also the essence and functions of language, which is central to humans who are social beings. In addition, they deepen their understanding of the conditions and activities of humans, who perform various linguistic activities, and cultivate profound insight on, wisdom of, and vision for people and society.
