Course Descpription

The course focuses on the managerial analysis of the Japanese firms, using their recent financial statements as data and Excel for the analytical software. My Web site is also fully utilized that provides digital lecture notes and exercises (along with useful hints).

The topics include (1) what the Japanese financial statements look like, and (2) how the managerial performance of the firms may be quantified and evaluated. The four main indices for the managerial performance studied include the financial security, the profitability, the productivity, and the growth.

The students will be asked to choose one or two Japanese firms for their Excel-based managerial analysis and to work with their term paper using the software Word.

Students are strongly urged to raise questions and discuss them with the instructor during class. They are expected to enjoy working with the personal computer and, in particular, Excel and Word.
